Paul J. Schmick

Executive Vice President, Chief Security & Technology Officer

As Executive Vice President, Chief Security & Technology Officer, Paul holds responsibilities over Alliance’s physical security division, consulting and risk management programs, and the company’s security technology division which deploys surveillance, access control, intrusion detection, bio-metric and cybersecurity technology platforms to the Alliance Building Services portfolio of clients.  Paul joined Alliance in January of 2016 as Vice President of Security Technology and in 2021 was promoted to Senior Vice President, Security & Technology.   In 2025, Paul was promoted to Executive Vice President, Chief Security & Technology Officer and leads all verticals of security at Alliance.

Prior to joining the Alliance team, Paul served eight years with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security - Transportation Security Administration.  In his last role with the department, Paul was responsible for the implementation of aviation security policy and led training programs and personnel at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, successfully enhancing the department's formidable defense against improvised explosive device (IED) threats targeting U.S. aviation assets and infrastructure.  Before Paul’s departure from the department in 2016, he was one of the most decorated officers’ to have served the TSA at John F. Kennedy airport since the inception of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, TSA in 2001.

Contributing to the academic community, Paul serves as an Associate Professor for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security - Transportation Security Administration Partnership Program at Des Moines Area Community College.  Paul instructs coursework in the disciplines of border security and transportation security at DMACC.  Paul previously served as the Academic Chair of Homeland Security and Security Management studies at the Long Island Business Institute in New York.

Paul earned a B.A. in Homeland Security & Emergency Management from Ashford University. He also holds a M.S. in Homeland Security Management from the Homeland Security and Terrorism Institute at LIU Post, and a M.S. in Cybersecurity from the University of Maryland.

Paul has served as a media contributor at CNN and MSNBC and has provided on-air analysis of security incidents and U.S. policy impacting aviation security, border security and national security matters.  He holds a position on the Cybersecurity Advisory Council at PSA Security Network and serves on the Executive Council at the Security Industry Association.
